Corn poppy is an annual or biennial, herbaceous plant. In the past you could find it in every cornfield, today you find it rather on embankments and on fallow ground. The seeds mature in a typical capsule. One capsule can contain up to 5,000 black seeds. Young leaves look like green feathers and can easily be confounded with a buttercup. Corn-poppies produce one single, bright red flower between May and July.
