Description


The sorrel grows primarily on nutrient-and nitrogen-rich meadows. It serves as an indicator plant for heavily fertilized with manure locations. It is dioecious, meaning there are male and female plants. On an inflorescence up to 300 million pollen can be formed. The young leaves can be eaten, they are rich in vitamin C. The sour taste comes from the oxalic acid, which is harmful in high doses. Sorrel is a food plant for the caterpillars of some butterflies and moths.
