The Christmas cactus belongs to the plant family of the cactus. It is native in the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil. It received its name due to the fact that it blooms around Christmas. After successful pollination, the Christmas cactus gets fruits. These need several weeks to months to mature. When they are mature, they shrivel and turn reddish. The different types of Christmas cacti have different habitats. So are those who grow in the crotches of trees, others on rocks or stones. The flowers, which are often shaped zygomorphous, is available in different colors. They present abundant nectar which serves as a food source to hummingbirds.
