Hyacinths are bulb plants and blossom in spring. Forced bulbs are available in stores in November. In the garden they bloom in March and April. Hyacinths planted in gardens multiply easily by bulbils and form dense clumps with time. If they are cultivated in the room, it can be stored in the refrigerator for excitation of flowering for 2-3 weeks. It is important to keep sufficient distance from the food, because the plants are poisonous in all parts. The name "hyacinth" comes from the Greek myth, the handsome young man Hyacinthos was instructed by the sun god Apollo in discus throwing. The wind god Zephyros got very jealous and killed the young man. From the young man's blood Apollo let thrive a hyacinth, so he may rise anew each year.
